67 Down, ?? to go

Yes, Nov 11 was my birthday and we went to the same restaurant we went to to celebrate Cristy's on the 9th.

The hostess and our waitress claimed their birthdays were on the 10th and we promised to all get together next year to celebrate together.

As nice as the restaurant looks, there was no heat. Temp outside was around 45 degrees. People thought nothing of dining in their coats. Pretty normal even for affluent people.

The restaurant chain is owned by Wal-Mart and at around $15-20 per person without cocktails is well beyond a working class salary except for really special events.

The food is quite good and, in general Wal-Mart seems to provide higher quality fresh produce, poultry and meat than it does in its US stores. Wal-Mart in Mexico targets middle and upper class customers with a wider selection and lower prices on better quality merchandise as opposed to rock bottom prices on mediocre products. There is some real competition from other chains and that may be the reason that they have diversified into restaurants and have bought out at least one competitor.
By the way, the birthday cake is what they call Tres Leches (three milks) and is to die for. Try Google for a recipe or restaurant in the US that offers it.
Regards to all.

  2. Happy birthday to both of you. Mine was the tenth (the big 4-0). The Tres Leches looks delicious, but I prefer my restaurant with heat. Glad to see you two are having such a good time.
